Student Wellness
At St. Mary Catholic Central, student wellness is an essential part of educating the whole person — mind, body, and spirit. Through student-led initiatives, intentional coursework, and supportive community programs, SMCC fosters a supportive environment where students feel valued, empowered, and prepared to navigate life’s challenges.
Student Prevention Leadership Team (SPLT)
The Student Prevention Leadership Team (SPLT) is a peer-led group focused on promoting healthy choices, positive decision-making, and substance-free lifestyles. SPLT members serve as role models within the school community, leading awareness efforts that encourage responsible behavior and mutual support.
#iMatter Club
The #iMatter Club provides a safe and welcoming space for students to focus on mental health awareness, self-worth, and connection. Through discussion, activities, and peer support, students are reminded that they matter while helping to build a culture of empathy, inclusion, and care.
Mindfulness & Social Emotional Wellness Course
The Mindfulness & Social Emotional Wellness course guides students in recognizing the power of positive thinking and personal awareness. Through mindfulness training and a guided curriculum, students are encouraged to become ambassadors of positive cultural change by building resilience, reducing stress reactivity, and developing emotional balance. They explore topics such as cognition, behavior, emotions, interpersonal effectiveness, and overall mental and physical well-being, gaining critical life skills that support self-care, compassion, empathy, and healthy coping strategies that extend far beyond the classroom.
Marius, Our Support Dog
Marius, our beloved support dog, brings joy and comfort to the SMCC community. Whether walking the halls, keeping students company, or sharing his signature smile at school events, he brightens the day for everyone he meets. Named in honor of Brother Marius Wittner, C.S.C. — a distinguished science teacher and mentor at Monroe Catholic Central and SMCC from 1976 to 1989 — Marius carries on a legacy of bringing joy to others. His friendly presence and cheerful nature help students and staff relax, feel grounded, and connected, reflecting the values that make our wellness culture purposeful and demonstrating that care, compassion, and companionship are at the heart of a healthy school community.
Together, these wellness initiatives reflect SMCC’s commitment to nurturing confident, resilient, and compassionate young adults prepared to thrive academically, socially, and personally.
