Brother Brad Flint, SMCC class of 1991, died in a tragic mountain biking accident in the summer of 2005. The son of Michael and Marilyn Flint had joined the Christian Brothers Order to pursue his dream of teaching and serving others.

To honor his memory, his SMCC classmates, along with friends and family, gather each summer to celebrate his birthday with a softball tournament and a family-style cookout.
A classmate captured Brad’s spirit in saying, “Brad’s love of life, of family and friends, and sports was contagious. Those who had the privilege of knowing him will tell you that you couldn’t help but smile, laugh at his jokes, and realize that God was present in Brad in a very special way.”

Proceeds from the event have been used to establish the Brother Brad Flint Campus Ministry and Christian Service Fund. The fund supports the school’s annual service trips to Appalachia and Guatemala, as well as Campus Ministry’s activities throughout the school year. It provides the Office of Campus Ministry with much-needed resources to foster the kind of Christian values that were so central in Brad’s life.

During the current school year, SMCC awarded over $1,000,000 in financial aid to over 60% of its families.
Much of the funding for this assistance came from one of our endowed or named scholarship funds. These funds represent a critical resource in ensuring a Catholic secondary education is accessible and affordable to those who seek it.

For more information about SMCC’s Named and Endowed Scholarship programs, please contact the Advancement Office.
